Can owners replace batteries or do they have to pay to have it done? ?
Yes they are user replaceable, but you don’t have to worry about having to have to replace them anytime soon. The built in automatic charger in this unit protects the battery from overcharging, so you can leave it plugged in perpetually and forget about it. Once the batteries are fully charged the charger automatically shuts off and trickle charges the batteries when the charge drops below 100%. The batteries can hold a charge for a very long time, so you don’t have to recharge the unit too often. I have mine for over a year now and I keep it on the floor of my car behind the driver seat plugged into a power inverter, so I never have to take it in the house to charge it. It tops off every time I drive.
Can I use a power inverter to change the 12V to 120 AC effectively?
Yes you can connect up a power inverter to this (and other units like the Schumacher XP2260 has an inverter built in). What are you wanting to run off the power inverter? For little things like running a laptop or such needing under 200 watts, an inverter can be connected thru the lighter outlet. If you expect to run things needing more power than ~200 watts, then connecting the jumper cables is the only way to go. FYI, with the batteries in this being rated 36 amp-hour I don’t think it’s a good idea to try pulling over 36 amps at 12V (which is ~400 watts) since the battery can overheat internally from pulling too much power and be damaged.

No problems. This thing is HEAVY!!! You don’t have to tie it down. This can lay flat as well. I’ll have to attach some jumper cables to it because no way I can lift it out. I think the guys won’t have a problem.
